What is hostname verification?

Follow these steps to verify the ownership of your hostname.

Updated over a week ago

In order for EasyRedir to verify ownership of your hostname you may be required to enter a Text (i.e. TXT) record into your DNS provider. This will help us to ensure that you control the hostname and should have access to creating redirects on it providing you with an extra layer of protection.

How do I know if I need to verify my hostname and what are my steps?

You will see the verification prompt if we have determined that additional verification steps are required. You will know you need to enter a TXT record into your DNS provider if you see the below status on your screen:

If you are seeing this, you will need to verify ownership of the hostname you're creating redirects on and can follow the below steps.

  1. Sign in to your DNS provider using your credentials for that provider.

  2. Add the provided TXT record name and TXT record value into a new TXT record in your DNS provider.

For example, your TXT record name would be _er-challenge.www.mysite.com. and your value would be Pp9Sy7tum93DAqnIe8_a0ZcpmARZz-G6GTAum0Ng8js in the case above. These values will be unique to each hostname.

  3. Once verified, your TXT record prompt will go away. This usually takes several minutes but is dependent on your DNS provider.

  4. Your redirects will begin working and your SSL certificate will begin to provision on the hostname.
